Japanese Diet Information

Natto, or fermented beans could be one of the most challenging Japanese foods for foreigners to try. Natto has a very powerful and distinctive smell which can be off putting for many people.

If one can get over the smell, natto is one of the most nutritious foods in the Japanese diet. Natto can be eaten by itself with rice, or is added to dishes like sushi and miso soup.

Natto contains a compound, pyrazine which can help reduce blood clotting. Like other soy products, natto has also been reported to help prevent cancer and lower cholestrol.
