Konnyaku, sometimes pronounced konyaku or konjac, is an unusual Japanese food which has a jelly like texture. It is made from konnyaku root.

Konnyaku has very few or neglible calories, no fat, but high in fibre and rich in minerals. Konnyaku is one of those miracle foods which has several health benefits, including: lowering cholestrol, preventing high blood pressure and even can help with weight loss. Konnyaku expands in the digestive system which can give the feeling of being full.

Konnyaku is usually added to soups and is one of the main ingredients in the winter dish oden.
