Edamame is a green vegetable and is a type of soybean. Edamame are boiled in the shell in slighlty salted water and eaten warm or cold. The are often eaten as a snack in Japan and go well with beer in summer.

As a snack they are served still in the shell and the beans are easily squeezed from the shell.

Edamame are very high in protein and can serve as a very tasty, healthy alternative to snacks such as potato chips.
